Maybe Portugal is not as famous in the world as Spain, Italy or France can be but, contrary to what one might think, it really offers: What to see, what to discover, what to live and what to eat!
I have not had the luck to visit the whole peninsula but I have spent some fantastic days in Lisbon, so I share with you a personalized guide of Lisbon with everything that for me is necessary to visit, eat, make and try.
Things that must be done in Lisbon
Go by foot from the "high" Lisbon to the "low" Lisbon:
Very much to San Francisco the structure of the city is almost grey, you can walk from north to south walking, discovering in its path many squares, monuments of the discoverers of the city, green areas and viewpoints (belvedere) from which they spot landscapes that take your breath away. You end up at the Praça do Comércio, a postcard square, with its white lines on which the typical yellow tram passes, a majestic building with an arch opening the plaza to the sea, you breathe the air of a house, you breathe history and you breathe Lisbon
Take a turn in the Yellow Tram (yellow) 28':
If there is one thing that makes Lisbon a traditional city it is not the surf that can be practiced in summer, it is not the francesinha (typical Lusitanian dish), it is not the word "saudade", but the most endearing and folkloric means of transport that there may be in Portugal, the yellow tram number 28). It can be found on all postcards; a trip around the city on board the tram is an experience you just can’t miss.
Visit the São Jorge Castle and the 'mirador':
If from the lower Lisbon you can see a spectacular view of a medieval castle surrounded by an enviable nature, from the top of the castle the "mirador" (belvedere) allows you to enjoy a view of the Lisbon landscape that is truly indescribable, in fact, you have to see it with your own eyes to believe in such beauty
Visiting (dedicating 1/2 days) the 'Belém neighborhood':
It is not an ordinary neighbourhood. Belém offers monuments, history, natural beauty, the port, entertainment, museums and great pastels.
- As far as I'm concerned, you have to visit at least:
- Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Monastero dei Geronimi)
- Tower of Belém (Tower of Belém)
- Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument of the Discoveries)
- Ponte 25 de Abril (Bridge 25 di Aprile)
- Two cars museum (Museum of cars)
Visit Sintra:
Leave Lisbon for a tour of the area (not far) of Sintra, rock formations, sea, monuments, nature. The Sintra area of Lisbon is a marvel; it seems like a story book, it also offers an enviable natural park
Visit the Oceanarium:
One of the most beautiful and species-rich aquariums in the world, absolutely mandatory, be it on a visit with children or without them. It's worth it for people of all ages. In addition, the area is very beautiful, with shops, restaurants and also worth spending a day as a whole day in a different, magical environment.
